Support for Make Rochdale a Fairtrade Borough campaign

Date published: 01/12/2005

The Fairtrade Town initiative has been developed by the Fairtrade Foundation (the organisation responsible for licensing and raising awareness of the FAIRTRADE Mark in the UK). It is a nationally recognised award for Towns and Borough's who actively support Fairtrade. The initiative

  • Helps promote the FAIRTRADE Mark to people across the UK.
  • Helps to get more shops/cafés and businesses to support Fairtrade by selling or serving Fairtrade products thus making it easy for people to buy it.
  • Helps communities in the UK to help communities in other parts of the world

To achieve Fairtrade Borough status, Rochdale must meet 5 goals:

groups_web_page.asp?addID=388&contactID=497

These goals require Rochdale Borough to identify all retail outlets, café’s, workplaces and community organisations (including churches and schools) that stock or serve Fairtrade products.  Quite a few  have already identified

and the target has nearly been reached, but still more are needed so if you are a shop, café, workplace or community organisation and you use or sell Fairtrade products, let the Action Group know on 01706 864357 or email la.21@rochdale.gov.uk.   You will be entitled to inclusion in the next Fairtrade guide (the list is also published on Rochdale Online) and a free window sticker for display on your premises.
